Welcome to the Loretto website

peter hogan newOur school days help to shape the people we are. A good education, like a poor one, will stay with us forever and we will never forget it. In the increasingly competitive, global environment, the next generation needs to be ready and able to play their part.

Loretto has a rich heritage of helping to foster intelligent, caring, creative, successful people who are at home anywhere in the world, working in a large variety of professions doing the most amazing things. Whilst it is nothing new to recognise that a hard working and disciplined but happy and friendly school brings out the best in children, it is not always something that takes place. Even at first glance it is clear that at Loretto the achievements and attitudes of pupils are twin hallmarks of their good schooling.

Loretto helps children by offering an exceptionally wide range of experiences coupled with excellent teaching. This is as true for boarders as it is for day pupils, and for boys as it is for girls. As the new Headmaster I expect all pupils to play their part as well as they can, to aspire to excellence in everything they do and always to remember that they are part of a very special community. A sense of belonging has been part of the School's ethos since foundation and, although times have changed, that and our shared values remain constant in our emphasis on developing the whole person. We have a professional duty to develop the mind, body and spirit of every child, through academic study, the arts, extra-curricular and sporting activities.

I believe in working with everyone to prepare young people to be confident, capable, flexible and compassionate. This will continue to be done in and out of the classroom by all staff in many different ways, and this is where the longer day and boarding ethos play a particularly important role. Pupils are known so well at Loretto and everyone will continue to work hard to develop the individual for their own sake in their own way.

While it is essentially a British school, for many years Loretto has welcomed boys and girls from overseas and takes a wide, inclusive view of the world. Tolerance and understanding of other nations and beliefs must be part of the education of the next generation of citizens and leaders.

Lorettonians study, play and share their lives in good facilities, some traditional and some modern. They work hard and achieve high standards. Above all staff know them well, we are proud of them and for them school is a great start to life.

Our website can convey little more than an impression of the school it represents, so if you are not familiar with Loretto, I hope you will wish to come and visit us, and I look forward to welcoming you.
