New Loretto Concert Series

The new Loretto Concert Series opened on Monday 25 August with a performance in Loretto Chapel by Coro Il Baluardo from Lucca, Tuscany, singing music from Italy and around the world. There were also items from the Loretto choir and solo vocal items from baritone Elio Antichi, Il Baluardo's dynamic conductor, and mezzo soprano Katy Thomson, who has just left the School and is surely destined for a career in opera. Elio and Katy brought the large audience to its feet with a thrilling duet before a final set of entertaining choral miniatures from the 17-strong Tuscan group. The concert ended with both choirs, a piper and the organ combining for a bilingual rendition of Amazing Grace, equally famous in Italy as Amici Miei.
