Christmas Gala Concert.

On Thursday evening, the Loretto Choirs, String Ensemble and Pipe Band  returned to Northesk Parish Church for the 2017 Christmas Gala Concert.

The Pipe Band started proceedings with some traditional sets before surprising the audience with a Christmas medley. The Junior Choir  (made up of the Schoo’s 2nd and 3rd Form pupils - Years 8 and 9) sang an endearing “Diamond Bright” with sophisticated harmonies for such a young group of singers. The younger pupils also had the opportunity to join the Senior Choir for pieces such as the popular “Gaudete” and John Rutter’s arrangement of “I Saw Three Ships.”

Following the Baroque Workshop earlier this term, the String Ensemble was in good place to play a movement  from Vivaldi’s “Winter.”

Although the evening was prominently Christmas themed, some popular performances from the last term were included in the concert such as “Caledonia” and “Almost There” by Ogechi . Other solos and duets were performed by Jacob, Daniel and Hamish.

Some other memorable moments of the concert were Elgar’s “The Snow,” sung by the female voices of the Senior Choir with members of the String Ensemble, and a powerful performance of “People Look East” by the Small Choir.

The evening was concluded with the last of two uplifting congregational carols, and we thoroughly look forward to this week’s Carol Services
