Gold medal for James in Beijing Maths Olympics.

Loretto School pupil, James Griffith, returned home triumphant after scooping a gold medal for the UK team in the 12th World Mathematical Olympiad in Beijing on 12th August 2017.

The one-day Olympiad saw the children completing team challenges and sitting an individual paper.

Competing against gifted mathematical children aged 9-12 years from around the world, the UK team won six coveted medals in the individual tests – with Scots' top-scorers James Griffith taking gold, and Ibrahim Faisal from Glasgow and Aidan Davis from Edinburgh receiving bronze awards

The UK team also won 3 of the 6 team tasks, pitted against 9 other countries including China, Canada, South Korea and Australia.

It proved to be a double celebration for James, aged 11, as he discovered that he had passed his A-level Maths exam soon after returning from China.

Many congratulations, James! A wonderful achievement.
