ISGA National Junior Finals
After a successful qualifying period, through the winter, Loretto qualified two teams to the National Junior Finals to be played at Radley College on the 20th June. This was our fourth visit to the National Finals and with a previous best finish of third, the team were excited about the challenge ahead.
After an excellent practice round mapping the course, the players were fully focused and prepared for a big performance the following day. The format of the event is adjusted stableford with players getting two shots at each hole allowing some attacking golf and high scores.
The team got off to a good start on the front 9 with Sam & Ollie leading the way with Calum & Juan very close behind.
After a few dropped shots at the start of the back nine, the players knew they needed a strong finish to put themselves in with a chance. Ollie set the tone with a strong finish, birdying the last for the clubhouse lead of 66 points. Following in the next group Sam knew he had to make a par to tie and a birdie to take the lead. After two good shots to 6 feet it all came down to a downhill left to right putt that he calmly stroked into the centre of the cup to take a one shot lead. Calum in the next group was also fighting back posting a score of 64 and Juan rounded the team off with a score of 61 points.
Loretto had the clubhouse lead in both the team and individual events and after a tense wait were rewarded by sweeping the board taking hope both the individual championship won by Sam and the team championship for the first time in Loretto’s history.
Ollie finished in second place and Calum third in the individual championship and Loretto also took second in the team to bring every trophy back to Scotland.
