- [Minor Sports](https://www.loretto.com/junior-and-senior-school/senior-school/sport/minor-sports/): Athletics is the central focus of PE in the summer at both Junior and Senior School. It is also an option in the summer term with all 2nd, 3rd and 4th Form girls having one games session of athletics per week.
- [Tennis](https://www.loretto.com/junior-and-senior-school/senior-school/sport/tennis/): Tennis is the main sport for girls throughout the summer term and there are opportunities for boys to play in competitive fixtures. During this time, the Astroturf becomes host to twelve full size tennis courts alongside the three hard courts housed beside Hope House. Girls from Second to Sixth form have the opportunity to play tennis in their games sessions and to compete in fixtures against schools including Fettes, George Watsons and Glenalmond amongst others. The tennis courts are also popular in the evenings where boarders are able to play against one another after prep time in house.

All boys from 2nd to 4th form play rugby three times a week on Pinkie. Loretto has a proud history of rugby and competes on a highly competitive circuit with regular fixtures against Fettes, Glenalmond, Merchiston Castle, The Edinburgh Academy, Robert Gordons College, High School of Dundee and schools south of the border. Loretto also runs a 7’s circuit where teams participate in the Rosslyn Park and North of England 7’s tournaments play in the Spring term.

Girls compete in the Autumn term and the boys compete in the Spring. Loretto competes against a wide variety of schools in Scotland. Both girls and boys hockey three times a week on the school Astro. Loretto has a proud history of hockey and competes on a highly competitive circuit with regular fixtures against Fettes, George Watsons College, Erskine Stewarts Melville, Gordonstoun, Merchiston Castle, The Edinburgh Academy, Robert Gordons College, Strathallan and touring sides from the North of England.

- [Nick Drane](https://www.loretto.com/team/nick-drane/): Nick is a PGA Professional with extensive coaching experience across all levels of the game. He is TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Level 2 certified across Golf, Power, and Junior development and Titleist Master Fitting Specialist. Nick delivers tailored training programmes to help players reach their full potential and oversees all coaching and club fitting at the Golf Academy.
- [Dean Halford](https://www.loretto.com/team/dean-halford/): Dean is one of the UK’s leading figures in junior Golf and is a pioneer in youth development. A former Head of Golf at the Lee Westwood Academy, his students have won top honours including The Carris and McEvoy Trophies. Passionate about youth wellbeing, Dean brings a wealth of experience to help Loretto’s golfers thrive on and off the course.
- [Daniel Moos](https://www.loretto.com/team/daniel-moos/): Daniel is a PGA Professional with a strong focus on developing young golfers under the age of 15. His friendly and engaging approach helps junior players build solid fundamentals and a love for the game, creating a strong foundation for future development.
- [Joanne Free](https://www.loretto.com/team/joanne-free/): Joanne is a former elite amateur golfer who has represented Scotland internationally at both the European Team Championships and at the Home Internationals. A highlight of her amateur career to date was qualifying for the prestigious U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, gaining valuable experience competing on an international stage. This, combined with her HNC in Professional Golf, her status as a qualified Community Golf Instructor, and her knowledge of pathways to US colleges, makes Joanne an incredible asset to the LGA.
- [Peter McCutcheon](https://www.loretto.com/team/peter-mccutcheon/): Peter McCutcheon was born in Dumfries in 1962 and educated in Swaziland before moving to St Ninian’s in Moffat and then Loretto School. He took a Law Degree at The University of Edinburgh before training at Sandhurst and commissioning into the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in 1984.  
- [Angela Beaton](https://www.loretto.com/team/angela-beaton/): Angela was born in Edinburgh but spent her childhood in London and then Glasgow where she attended multiple schools finally landing at Hutchesons Grammar. From there she went on study Jurisprudence and Economics at the University of Glasgow followed by an LLM at the European Academy of Law in Brussels. Having spent her early career working for the American law firm Dorsey & Whitney, Angela then transitioned in to HR where she has had a successful, international career mainly in the fields of healthcare and pharmaceutical. 
- [Tim Riddell](https://www.loretto.com/team/tim-riddell/): Tim was born in Scotland spent his primary and secondary education around Edinburgh and was awarded an open scholarship to Loretto School (1975-1980). He played 1st XI Hockey, was in the Athletics, Shooting and Fives teams and was Head of Seton House.
- [Claire Watt](https://www.loretto.com/team/claire-watt/): Claire Watt joined Loretto in October 2018 as Clerk to the Governors. Her responsibilities include supporting the Chair of the Board of Loretto as well as the individual Chairs of all the governance committees and the Loretto Full Board. She has a background in Financial Services Risk, Corporate Governance, HR and Project Management having worked in Edinburgh and overseas for a major Bank.

- [Pete Richardson](https://www.loretto.com/team/pete-richardson/): Pete grew up in South Africa where, as the son of a Methodist minister and theologian, he attended Kearsney College. Pete’s mother was also a school principal and so he was delighted to be following in her footsteps when he was appointed as Head of Loretto School in 2023. Before taking on this role, Pete served as Vicegerent (Senior Deputy Head) of Loretto School and Assistant Head Boarding at Gordonstoun. Pete gained his English Literature degree from the University of Kwazulu-Natal where he played several sports, was Chair of university athletics and Co-chair of RAG. 
- [Rachael Delaney](https://www.loretto.com/team/rachael-delaney/): Rachael was appointed Senior Deputy Head in 2024. Having worked in the education sector for over 20 years in both large comprehensive and independent schools, she brings a wealth of experience spanning classroom teaching, curriculum leadership, pastoral care, and senior leadership, giving her a holistic perspective on the factors that contribute to educational excellence. Her current responsibilities include deputising for the Head in his absence, leading strategic initiatives, coordinating whole-school events, and line-managing Deputy Heads and Senior Leaders. With a passionate and collaborative leadership style, she is committed to fostering an environment in which every child and member of staff can thrive. 
- [Matt Tuckwood-Hill](https://www.loretto.com/team/matt-tuckwood-hill/): Matt is the School’s Director of Finance and Operations and, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, works closely with the Head and Board to shape and deliver the School’s strategic direction. He provides leadership across 12 multi-functional teams, overseeing the day-to-day administrative and operational functions that support the effective running of the School.
- [Catherine Beddison](https://www.loretto.com/team/catherine-beddison/): Catherine became Junior School Head in August 2023. Previously, she was Deputy Head at Cranleigh Prep School in Surrey, combining these responsibilities with teaching Music and coaching netball and cricket. . Prior to this, Catherine ran the Music Departments at The Hall School in London, Mount House School in Devon, Winchester House School in Northamptonshire and The Henry Box School in Oxfordshire. She studied Music at Manchester University, then progressed to her PGCE course at the University of Huddersfield. Catherine has an impressive track record of empowering children and adults to develop their individual skills and talents in order to achieve high standards. She is a Trustee of the Choral Charity Sing for Pleasure and is Chair of Trustees for the Morland Choristers’ Camp. She also works as a freelance choral conductor, singer and adjudicator, and volunteers as a netball and swimming official for clubs in the local community. When not leading our Junior School or singing, Catherine enjoys time at home with her husband, Rowland, and her daughter, Cecilia.

- [Welcoming girls to Trafalgar Lodge](https://www.loretto.com/timeline/welcoming-girls-to-trafalgar-lodge/): In the early 1980s, in an effort to increase pupil numbers and boost the School’s academic profile, the Governors agreed that Loretto should become co-educational. Trafalgar Lodge was converted into a boarding house and, in September 1981, twenty-four girls joined Loretto’s Sixth Form.
- [Chapel Extension](https://www.loretto.com/timeline/chapel-extension/): As the roll call of the School continued expanding during the 20th century, our wonderful Chapel was required to follow suit.
- [Royal Visit](https://www.loretto.com/timeline/4485/): In 1958, Loretto was honoured to welcome the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh for a tour of the School.
- [Service and the Christmas Truce](https://www.loretto.com/timeline/service-and-the-christmas-truce/): A great number of Old Lorettonians (OLs) served during the two World Wars, with many sadly giving their lives. Several OLs were also honored for their bravery, a testament to the character instilled at Loretto.
- [Hely Hutchinson Almond](https://www.loretto.com/timeline/hely-hutchinson-almond/): In 1862 the School was purchased by Hely Hutchinson Almond, who had had a distinguished career at Glasgow University and Balliol College, Oxford, where he was a Snell Exhibitioner. This was not Almond’s first introduction to Loretto, for he had previously been employed in 1857 as mathematics master.
- [Foundation and the Rev. Thomas Langhorne](https://www.loretto.com/timeline/foundation-and-the-rev-thomas-langhorne/): The Rev. Thomas Langhorne arrived in Musselburgh in 1820 and soon won the respect of a large number of the country families in the area. He started offering private tuition to the boys of these families and, although he occupied a large house at Stoneyhill, the number of his pupils increased so rapidly that he was forced to look for more accommodation.
- [Pinkie House and the ‘King’s Room’](https://www.loretto.com/timeline/pinkie-house-and-the-kings-room/): The oldest part of Pinkie House is the massive central tower erected by the Abbots of Dunfermline, probably dating from the late fourteenth century. A hundred years later the rooms immediately to the north were added, comprising approximately what is now the Headmaster’s house. Around 1600 the building came by inheritance into the hands of Alexander Seton, King James VI’s Chancellor. He was a man of considerable distinction and was held in such high esteem by the King that when, in 1603, the latter left for London to add the throne of England to that of Scotland, he entrusted into Seton’s charge at Pinkie his son, Charles, later to become King Charles I. It has always been assumed that Charles, during his three years’ stay there, occupied what is still called ‘the King’s Room’.

- [Schoolhouse Boarding House](https://www.loretto.com/venue/schoolhouse-boarding-house/): Schoolhouse is our newest boarding house right in the heart of campus. Designed as a mixed boarding space, it combines shared common facilities with the safety and privacy of two lockable wings, allowing groups to stay together comfortably. Accommodations include single, double, triple, and quadruple rooms, with each wing featuring its own communal kitchen, showers, and bathroom facilities. Residents can relax in two spacious common rooms with games and TVs or enjoy the inviting reception area. Schoolhouse boarding facilities are set on the first floor of Schoolhouse and can accommodate up to 43 guests with 25 in one wing and 18 in the other wing. We have a long track record of hosting private residential visits from local and international academic study groups, sporting teams and special interest groups in our Boarding Houses.

The Communication & Resource Centre (CRC) is located in the heart of the Loretto campus. The facility presents two rooms connected by a linking corridor. Meeting Room 1 is a large and lofty space with triple aspect windows, offering views across the campus to the chapel. Meeting Room 2 is another large room with access to adjacent kitchen facilities.
- [Golf Academy](https://www.loretto.com/venue/golf-academy/): Loretto is celebrated internationally as a centre of excellence for golf coaching. Its central position on Scotland’s Golf Coast makes the Loretto Golf Academy a compelling offer for corporate groups and industry away days.

- [Colin Thompson Hall](https://www.loretto.com/venue/colin-thompson-hall/): Originally designed as a chapel by prolific Scottish architect Sir Robert Lorimer, this distinctive Gothic Revival building includes a choir area and small stage. The interior has been comprehensively redesigned to incorporate ballet barres and a full mirror wall with black theatre curtains. The facility also incorporates two classrooms which may be used during the event as required.

- [Loretto Chapel](https://www.loretto.com/venue/loretto-chapel/): Loretto Chapel is an exquisite venue for celebrations, and concerts set within verdant grounds at Schoolhouse Campus. The 19th-century architecture was expanded in the mid-20th century to present a striking and charismatic space that will uniquely enhance your event. This venue makes for an especially memorable venue for a wedding ceremony, the extraordinary coloured glass flooding the beautiful interiors with light. The celebrated acoustics make the chapel perfect for choral groups and performances.
- [Golf Academy Conference Suite](https://www.loretto.com/venue/golf-academy-conference-suite/): A bright room perfect for a meeting. Complete with a conference table and chairs, and with a wall-mounted screen at one end. This smart room is within the Golf Academy and perfectly pairs with our state-of-the-art golfing facilities with swing analysis computers, a bunker, plenty of nets and a putting area.

The Painted Gallery can be used in tandem with the Library & Conference Suite offering access to the full range of facilities within the historic Pinkie House.

The space is presented across two large and attractive rooms, connected by a linking door which enables a versatile layout and options for breakout rooms. The Old Library is atmospheric with panelled walls lined with books and the Conference Suite is light and airy with integrated Audio Visual facilities. Both spaces benefit from picturesque views over the Walled Garden.

The Pavilion is a great asset to your event, offering toilets and a heated indoor changing space. Newfield Tearoom should also be considered for the service of refreshments for your event.

The tearoom is spacious and can also be hired independently for community events and celebrations.

Your group can use the facility as part of a residential visit to Loretto. The facility can be used in tandem with the Concert Hall for a more expansive soundscape.

It has a common room, TV lounge and shower facilities contained within the house. Balcarres is within the same setting as Holm House and can be linked together. We have a long track record of hosting private residential visits from local and international academic study groups, sporting teams and special interest groups in our Boarding Houses.

The house contains a communal kitchen and common rooms, which include a TV and games room. Each floor has shower and bathroom facilities contained within the House. We have a long track record of hosting private residential visits from local and international academic study groups, sporting teams and special interest groups within our Boarding Houses.

It has a common room, TV lounge and shower facilities contained within the house. There is also a lift located in the main reception area of the House, improving accessibility to both floors. Holm is within the same setting as Balcarres House and can be linked together. We have a long track record of hosting private residential visits from local and international academic study groups, sporting teams and special interest groups in our Boarding Houses.

This building housed King Charles VI of Scotland when he was a boy, who went on to be King Charles I of England, hence our three double rooms are called the ‘King’s Rooms’. We have a long track record of hosting private residential visits from local and international academic study groups, sporting teams and special interest groups in our Boarding Houses.
