Loretto pupils shine at Model United Nations’ Conference.
A group of Loretto’s Sixth Formers attended Europe’s largest Model United Nations’ Conference recently – very much an international event with schools from America, Iran, Germany, Greece, Switzerland, Ireland and the UK.
Jonny, Tiggi, Lachlann, Lily, Fiona and Johan represented the delegation of Norway to debate world issues such as the Zika virus, direct diplomacy and immigration, just to name a few.
Loretto’s team worked tirelessly in the run up to the event, researching Norway’s position on each topic for discussion and producing resolution papers that were exemplary.
A main skill at the event was garnering enough support from other delegations in order to have the opportunity to discuss and defend one’s resolutions. Each of our pupils showed themselves to be confident negotiators and also skilled orators when it came to taking to the floor.
Special congratulations to Jonny who received a highly commended award for his resolution on the topic of space debris.
Only 12 of these awards are given out among the 600 delegates so we are delighted with his success.
Well done to all of the team for their drive, diplomacy and great reeling!
