Our Engineers meet Heriot-Watt Engineering's racing team (Loretto Engineers Blog w14)

Welcome to the weekly update from our fifth and sixth form engineers regarding their ambitious project to build an IET Formula 24+ electric racing car and take part in the 2019 Greenpower International Race Championships.

After a break for internal and external exams, Loretto Engineers are back on track.

Yesterday we were invited to meet the Formula Student Team at Heriot-Watt University - Engineering Department. The team gave us a tour of their impressive student workshops where they machine all of the components for their very impressive petrol-driven racing car.

The Heriot-Watt Engineering racing team are in the final preparations for their annual race at Silverstone. We left inspired by their work and today we returned to the Physics laboratory to begin our next major task – to design the shell of our racing car using Siemens’ Solid Edge computer aided design package. If anyone has any advice or experience, please get in touch!

In the meantime, we are computer designing templates to clad the car using corrugated plastic for our track tests.
