Mr Philip Meadows returned to Loretto in April 2009 having been head of Chemistry at Loretto from 1987 to 1996. From Loretto he joined Sedbergh School as a Housemaster and then he was the Headmaster of two successful junior schools: Mowden Hall School, one of Northumberland's leading prep schools for 3 - 13 years, and Tettenhall College Junior School, a day school for 3 - 11 years, which feeds into Tettenhall College in Wolverhampton.
Under Philip Meadow's headship at Mowden Hall, the school continued its long-standing record of outstanding achievement across sport, music, drama and academia. In particular, Philip Meadows, a Cambridge graduate, strengthened the academic programme resulting in over half of all pupils gaining scholarship awards to top class independent senior schools including Rugby, Ampleforth, Sedbergh and Gordonstoun.
Philip Meadows started his teaching career in Scotland in 1983. He is committed to the value added aspect of an independent education and sees it as in integral part of his role to create opportunities for children in a broad range of extra-curricular and sporting activities. In this capacity he has led racing and recreational skiing trips to the Alps and organised rugby and cricket tours to South Africa, Canada and the West Indies. He is an experienced leader of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and a 1st XV rugby coach, as well as playing rugby for Heriots FP RFC.
