PSHE / Life Skills

Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) / Life Skills is a planned programme of learning through which pupils are provided with the opportunity to enhance the skills necessary to thrive both whilst at Loretto and beyond.

The programme covers three core areas: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and the Wider World and is delivered by Form Tutors on a weekly basis. The majority of sessions are discussion-based and follow a spiral curriculum through which pupils transition from second form to sixth form. The curriculum has been designed and resourced in line with guidance offered by a range of external agencies. The curriculum is reviewed regularly to ensure the topics covered remain relevant.

Tutor sessions are supplemented by a range of visiting speakers and workshops which provide topic specific insight and expertise. The School’s Health Centre staff support the programme through the provision of bespoke topic-based seminars. Parents are encouraged to play an active role via attendance at a variety of information evenings and a number of parents have volunteered to speak to the pupils to enhance their learning. Together these external sources of support allow for the provision of a dynamic, relevant, interesting and engaging programme which forms a central element of pastoral care within the school.
