Support for Learning

Support will be available for those pupils with an identified learning need (literacy skills). Below the Sixth Form there are up to three timetabled lessons per week where pupils will be able to develop their study skills and literacy skills within a small group. The group size, ideally, will be up to five pupils.

Support Learning is timetabled in lieu of the second Modern Language in both Second and Third Form. For those pupils who may still require support for their GCSEs, then this is available in lieu of Option 2 (Science) or a Core Language.

We have English and Maths specialist Support teachers who offer In-class Support for a limited number of classes, up to the Fifth Form – be it for settling pupils into the 2nd Form or for a greater degree of support in the GCSE years: this option is always dependent on timetabling.

Sixth Form support is available for the small number of pupils who may require it and it is timetabled on a needs basis, usually only for the first term. It is rare for support to be required in the Upper Sixth.
