'Sweet success' for Loretto School's Social Enterprise team.
Seven Third Form (Year 9) pupils were invited to the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh to receive a ‘Social Enterprise in Education’ Award
Their enterprise involved taking over the Schoolhouse tuck-shop. This was stocked with sweets specially imported from America and the shop three times a week.
As a social enterprise, the profits from their business are being given to the Maggie's Centre in Edinburgh rather than being put back into the business. Maggie's was chosen as some of the pupils had a local connection to Annette Fox and her family, who were being supported by Maggie's when the group first met.
They received their award from Yvonne Strachan CBE - Head of Equality, Human Rights and the Third Sector at the Scottish Government.
The pupils deserve a lot of credit for their creativity and hard work this year and they are determined to continue their business journey into Fourth Form.
