Alistair Rutherford

Alistair went to The Edinburgh Academy Preparatory School before joining Loretto for the rest of his school years (1981 – 1988). He played 1st XV Rugby and 1st XI Hockey and Cricket and enjoyed other school sports also.

After a degree in Sports Science from Cardiff University he worked for IMG Sports Management in London before returning to Scotland and founding the award winning food manufacturing business Edinburgh Provisions Ltd with  a fellow Lorettonian, Sandy Herd. After exiting the business Alistair delivered consultancy to a number of the world’s biggest Food & Drink brands at the same time as joining the board of directors for the Edinburgh-based personal development charity Venture Scotland.

He became Director of the Country Sports tourism sector in Scotland from 2005 – 2009 before becoming a Director with global leadership consultants, The Pacific Institute UK (2009 – 2012). Here he worked with global organisations and deprived communities alike, helping them build advanced leadership and personal development skills.  

In 2013 Alistair achieved an MSc in Performance Psychology from The University of Edinburgh before founding the Leadership and Management Development consultancy, CultureUp Ltd (later Vortex Ltd). At this time he also became a panel judge for the Scottish Entrepreneurial Talent EDGE Awards.

In his free time Alistair loves playing golf, fly fishing, creative writing, making music and taking part in testing outdoor challenges.

He lives in Haddington, East Lothian with his wife Annie and their two boys Maximilian and Lucas.
