Pete grew up in South Africa where, as the son of a Methodist minister and theologian, he attended Kearsney College. Pete’s mother was also a school principal and so he was delighted to be following in her footsteps when he was appointed as Head of Loretto School in 2023. Before taking on this role, Pete served as Vicegerent (Senior Deputy Head) of Loretto School and Assistant Head Boarding at Gordonstoun. Pete gained his English Literature degree from the University of Kwazulu-Natal where he played several sports, was Chair of university athletics and Co-chair of RAG.
Pete has dedicated his entire career to education. He started his teaching career in South Africa when he was a fresh-faced 21 year old before moving to the United Kingdom where he has taught English and history and has been a Housemaster at both Worksop College and Gordonstoun for a total of nine years.
Pete is a member of the HMC and the board of FetLor. He has participated in ultra-marathon, Ironman triathlon and K1 and K2 kayaking but cricket remains his favourite pastime. That said, time spent with his wife, Mel, and his two children, both students at Loretto, is invaluable.
