Peter McCutcheon was born in Dumfries in 1962 and educated in Swaziland before moving to St Ninian’s in Moffat and then Loretto School. He took a Law Degree at The University of Edinburgh before training at Sandhurst and commissioning into the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in 1984.
After filling a range of regimental and staff posts which took him across the world, Peter was selected to attend the French Joint Services Command and Staff Course in Paris. His final post as Commander, Old College at Sandhurst brought him full circle. He then joined the academic staff at Sandhurst, becoming Deputy Head of the Department of War Studies. He taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level for 5 years before retiring for the second time.
Peter and his wife, Kim, have long had a house near Melrose and are now living there full-time. They are both keen hillwalkers and also enjoy buying modern Scottish landscape paintings. Having gained a Research Masters in History, Peter is now working towards a PhD at St Andrews University.
