ETHOS

Loretto is well known for its emphasis on the development of the whole person, in mind, body and spirit.

HISTORY

Loretto School was founded by  Rev. Thomas Langhorne  in 1827 and was bought by Hely Hutchison Almond in 1862 who had previously taught Mathematics under Langhorne and went on to become Head.

SCHOOL STRUCTURE

Loretto Pre-School welcomes girls and boys from ages 3 to 5,  Junior School from ages 5 to 12, and Senior School from ages 12 to 18.

AVERAGE CLASS SIZE

At Loretto, every child is known and nurtured. This is made possible by our purposefully small class sizes where individual attention is provided to every child, during every class.

Our average class size is 12.6 in Junior School, 13 in Senior School, dropping to 8 in A-Level classes.

DAY STUDENTS

Day pupils are assigned to one of Loretto’s Houses. Approximately one third of Senior Students are Day Pupils.

BOARDING

There are five Boarding Houses within Loretto’s secure, 85-acre campus. Approximately one third of pupils board full time, another third Flexi Board (three nights per week) and Weekly Boarding has been introduced from Autumn Term 2024 (five nights per week – Monday – Saturday).

EXAMINATIONS

We present pupils for GCSE, BTEC and A-Level examinations, all of which secure high UCAS points for entry to University.

ACADEMIC RESULTS

Each year our pupils achieve outstanding grades comparably higher than the national average. Our A-Level pass rate is 99%.

UNIVERSITIES

Pupils have recently gone to universities across the UK, Europe and the USA, including the Universities of St. Andrews, York, Durham and Cambridge and a wide range of international universities including Berlin, Munich, Glion in Switzerland, Duke University in North Carolina, Campbell University in North Carolina, Kentucky, Arizona and LMU, Los Angeles.

THE ARTS

Nurturing creativity and its expression, Loretto’s uniquely rounded approach focuses on the development of the whole person, meaning that The Arts form an important part of our educational provision.

SPORTS CO-CURRICULAR

Sport plays a significant role in the daily lives of our pupils and we provide a broad range of opportunities for children of all abilities.
