Located within our secure and leafy campus, just on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Loretto Pre-School is a warm and friendly early-learning environment for children ages 3-5.
Joining Loretto Pre-School is not the same as choosing a nursery, childminder or other care for your child. Why? Because it’s quite literally preparing them for school, laying the foundations to create the exceptional future you dream of for your child.
We offer a holistic education, with a strong emphasis on learning through play. Our Pre-School is large enough to offer a broad range of curriculum subjects and activities, yet small enough to provide an environment that genuinely nurtures children and enables every individual to thrive.
Through planned, purposeful play and plenty of outdoor activities, our trained, experienced teachers and team of Early Years specialists know and nurture every child, developing activities around their individual interests so that all learning is active and engaged.
Here’s what you can expect from Loretto Pre-School:
Positive relationships are key to our success. We establish open and effective communications between pupils, staff and parents, keeping the best interests of your child at the heart of our decision-making.
We would love to meet you and your child and introduce you to Loretto Pre-School. Contact Admissions on 0131 653 4455 or email admissions@loretto.com to find out more.

Our pupils
Already full of creative energy, we enable our pupils to engage in a wide range of learning opportunities which encourages them to develop lively, enquiring minds.
With regular assemblies and Chapel services, along with input from specialist teachers in Art, Music, Sport and French, your child will be taken care of holistically, in mind, body and spirit. Physical activity is an important part of each day, with outdoor learning taking place all year round, along with Forest School, set securely within the 85-acre Loretto campus. Here children make memories, safely learning to build shelters, make fire and harvest products from nature. Wild garlic is picked and used to make wild garlic bread over the campfire, before being eaten for lunch. It’s childhood as it should be.
Our staff
Our staff are experienced, caring and dedicated to fostering a lifelong love of challenge and achievement. They are skilful experts who are able to harness your child’s natural curiosity, using carefully selected, stimulating resources within our dedicated inside and outside classrooms. Our small class sizes allow staff to tailor the curriculum to the needs of the group, whilst ensuring that personal development and outstanding pastoral care are prioritised.
Our parents
From the very beginning of your child’s education, you are invited to become part of the Loretto community. Our families are as welcoming as the children and represent a wide cross-section of professions, with each family contributing to the richness and diversity of our community.
Loretto Pre-School benefits from a positive and supportive parental body who are frequently in attendance at performances, charity events and sports matches. Our parents recognise the benefits of the full Loretto journey, from age 3 to 18, and are consistently strong advocates for our all-through educational offering.
