Food is an essential part of school life and at Loretto we are privileged to have an on-site catering team providing delicious, fresh food seven days a week.
Senior School pupils enjoy meals in the dining room – or ‘Hotel Loretto’ as it is affectionately known – located in the hub of the senior campus, with meals being mainly self-service. Younger years dine in the Junior School dining room with their peers and are supervised by members of staff.
Every day begins with a tasty breakfast. Lorettonians can select as many items as they wish from the following options: a full Scottish Breakfast (oven baked/grilled); a selection of yoghurts; delicious smoothies; a fresh fruit bar; cereals and freshly baked pastries.
Each morning, fresh breads are baked on-site, while two homemade soups of the day are prepared, ready to be enjoyed at lunchtime. This hearty option is incredibly popular, particularly during winter months.
Lunch and supper are served buffet-style with choices comprising a main course with a vegetarian option, as well as suitable alternatives to cater for any other dietary requirements. Seasonal vegetables are always available, along with a potato side dish or carbohydrate alternative, whichever suits the daily menu.

In addition to this, a pasta bar is available daily with two options; an authentic homemade tomato and herb sauce and a sauce of the day. The nutritious delights of our freshly prepared salad bar provide a stellar accompaniment to every meal. Vibrant and colourful, the selection of naked and house salads is as easy on the eye as it is refreshing on the palette. Pupils are encouraged to help themselves as we look to nurture healthy dietary habits.
For anyone with a sweet tooth, our offering of both traditional and modern hot puddings gives pupils a sense of home away from home. There is also a selection of cold desserts alongside yoghurt and fruit options – both whole and prepared.
For tea, we also provide a delicious spread. All in Senior School, whether boarders or day pupils, are welcome to enjoy tea. In Junior School, Years Four to Seven can stay for tea at no extra cost, as it is included in fees. Those in Years One to Three can also join, with an additional charge applied per session.
Our catering team is committed to providing healthy and nutritionally balanced menus for pupils while maintaining quality, variety and catering to all dietary needs. All ingredients are procured from high quality suppliers, many of whom are based locally in keeping with our commitment to sustainability.
