We are delighted to share the following changes to the Senior School Sports Programme, commencing in the 2027 Spring Term:
Thanks to the invaluable feedback provided by pupils and parents through comprehensive surveys and focus groups, we can best enhance participation, skill development, enjoyment, and breadth of opportunities for pupils, whilst also future proofing our provision.

The implementation of Netball as the Spring Term’s Major Sport for girls will ensure that they continue to benefit from a vibrant and competitive sporting experience, whilst reflecting the growth of the sport across the country.
Whilst Loretto has a proud history of Lacrosse, its popularity is declining, with only a small number of schools, universities, and clubs able to compete in regular fixtures. Despite this, we are committed to offering variety and supporting the enthusiasm and talent of our teams. Opportunities to play Lacrosse will continue, in addition to competitive fixtures when uptake allows.
This change to Girls’ Games comes at an exciting time as the refurbishment of Hope Courts draws nearer, meaning pupils will benefit from a high-quality environment that will contribute to greater participation and performance. Additionally, the recent success of our 1st VII Netball team in the Scottish Schools Cup Tournament demonstrates pupils’ drive and determination to grow the sport and achieve their very best.
Hockey will remain the Major Sport in the Spring Term, complemented by an enhanced Rugby 7s fixture programme. This ensures a similarly strong balance of development, enjoyment, and competitive opportunity across both programmes.

Overall, these changes represent an exciting step forward in Loretto’s Sports Programme and demonstrate a commitment to providing the highest quality sporting experience for pupils. Through making the most of our outstanding facilities and offering a wider range of competitive opportunities, pupils of all abilities can thrive, develop, and enjoy their sport.
