Lacrosse is the main sport for girls at Loretto during the Spring Term where girls in the senior school have the opportunity to train at Newfield up to three times a week.
Throughout the Autumn Term girls are able to do an activity to help develop their stick work and are encouraged to work on their fitness through a strength and conditioning programme in preparation for the Spring Term season. Girls in the Second, Third and Fourth Form are able to play in their respective age grade team against Scottish schools including Fettes, Glenalmond, St Leonards and St George’s and compete in junior Scottish tournaments. Fifth and Sixth Form pupils play in one of our three senior teams with fixtures against schools from Scotland, the North of England as well as local clubs. Edinburgh is a popular destination for touring sides and we often host teams from further afield. Each year, the First team travel down to Surrey to compete in the National Schools Championship where they compete in a two-day tournament against some strong lacrosse schools from all over the United Kingdom.
Loretto encourages girls to train with local clubs as well as the Scotland Junior squads and actively advertises training weekends. We also host training weekends for the Senior Scotland squads on occasion giving the girls the chance to see lacrosse at the top level.
