Creating Exceptional Lives

Drama develops confidence, character, team work and empathy. At Loretto, we focus on creativity, communication and collaboration, whilst also nurturing individual talent.

Drama is vibrant at Loretto, with pupil-led productions playing a starring role.

Our on-campus theatre can welcome an audience of 300 and is fully equipped with a computer lighting board, multimedia projection and sound. Drama still are developed both in school and on external theatre trips to a variety of different performances of differing styles, supplementing their in-school learning. Pupils enjoy many excellent opportunities to put this learning into practice, including at least two productions per year.

In a pupil’s own words

“It’s so much fun… You’re being productive even without realising it… Lessons are so refreshing and such a great break from learning facts or listening to teachers… You get to DO and create, even if it doesn’t work at least you try….You work with people you wouldn’t normally work with… You feel included and you can be yourself, you learn how other people think and act… You become more confident in yourself.”

Form 2 and Form 3

Pupils have the opportunity to learn about acting, directing, design and production during their weekly lessons. Optional activities enable them to take this further, whether that be in costume design, character creation or choreography.

GCSE (Form 4 and Form 5)

We offer the AQA GCSE Drama qualification that combines written elements with practical coursework. We look at content, style, characterisation as well as staging, contexts and performing.

A-Level (Sixth Form)

We offer the AQA A-Level Drama qualification that combines written elements with practical coursework. We look at the whole theatrical process from the content and creation of a play to the production. Pupils pick which theatrical role they wish to be assessed in, from director to lighting designer.
