Creating Exceptional Lives

Support For Learning

The Support for Learning (SfL) department is a warm and safe space where diverse minds are not only welcomed but celebrated. Where every student’s potential is realised.

Our small class sizes ensure that each young person receives individualised attention, fostering an environment where their unique learning styles and strengths are recognised and nurtured.

Our caring pastoral approach ensures we also address the emotional and social needs of every student, ensuring they thrive both academically and personally.

The role of the Support for Learning (SfL) Department at Loretto is to enable pupils across the ability range to access the curriculum in a way that meets their individual needs, and hence we aim to:

  • Work collaboratively with class teachers
  • Provide tuition in literacy and study skills whilst offering in-class support for literacy and numeracy
  • Evaluate individual pupil’s needs for ‘Learning Support’
  • Encourage pupils to become more independent in their learning
  • Monitor and review pupils’ progress in SfL
  • Provide for an effective transition of pupils from Junior School through to Senior School and on to University, Further Education establishments or the workplace

We strive to know and nurture all pupils who access the Support for Learning Department.

Our Support for learning staff are highly experienced and provide support sessions for pupils throughout their timetable. The staff also partake in activities and responsibilities across the school and so are familiar with all pupils and know them in many contexts.
