The EPQ is an A Level standard standalone qualification to extend and develop abilities beyond the A-level syllabus. It helps to prepare pupils for university or their future career.
An EPQ is worth half an A-level (up to 28 UCAS points), is recognised by universities and employers and many universities make lower A Level offers to students undertaking an EPQ. Hence it is an attractive course of study for many of our Sixth Formers.
Further benefits to taking the EPQ include improving overall A Level performance, increasing pupil motivation by being able to study topics of personal interest and enabling students to apply their new skills to other areas of study.
The EPQ allows pupils to lead their own projects. They get to plan and carry out research on a topic that they’ve chosen and isn’t covered by their other courses. Pupils can take inspiration from something touched on in class or something personal and unrelated to their studies. They then use this research to produce a written report and, in the case of practical projects, an artefact or a product.
We have an experienced and dedicated member of our teaching staff who oversees our EPQs in the first instance.
