At Loretto School, the Science laboratories are well equipped to deliver enriching and engaging learning experiences to our pupils from Form Two to Sixth Form.
Form Two and Form Three
In Junior School and Second Form (Year 8), we deliver a curriculum aimed at developing pupils’ practical and problem-solving skills. This is extended outside the classroom through the STEM enrichment activity where students are encouraged to put their questions and ideas to the test by designing, planning, and conducting an enquiry-based project. These experiences prepare them well for the start of their GCSE studies in Third Form.
GCSE (Form 4 and Form 5)
Based on their ability and motivation, Fourth Form pupils are placed in sets to either study Separate Sciences or Trilogy Science. The Separate Science qualifications offer pupils the opportunity to achieve three GCSEs, one in each science Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Studying for the Combined Science qualification will give pupils two GCSEs in Science. Students who follow the Combined Science path will still be able to study an individual science subject in Sixth Form.
All of our GCSE courses offer a rigorous and stimulating science education as well as helping to prepare the students for their Advanced level studies in Sixth Form and beyond.
