Media Studies encourages students to study the media in an academic context and apply the knowledge and understanding gained to their own media productions. Critical thinking skills are developed as they study the media in both global and historical contexts.
A-Level
This A-Level course covers news and online media, representation, and content for film, TV, music videos and gaming. Pupils conduct an in depth study of film and advertisements to develop their understanding of how the media industry works.
As the media is one of the top employers in the UK it is a highly desirable qualification for future employment across a range of industries. Allowing your creativity to flourish as well as stretching your academics, the media courses offered cover all areas of the media including print, TV, Film, Gaming, News, and music videos. The technical skills pupils acquire from these courses include Adobe Photoshop and InDesign which match current industry standards.
There is a highly challenging nature to the individual units such as Long Form TV drama, e.g. comparing ‘Stranger Things’ to a foreign language ‘Deutschland 83’.
